Fall registration opens August 11th to new students!



Class start dates:

School year classes for Level 1 and 2 will start on August 26th. These classes have once or twice weekly enrollment options. Little Dragons class starts later on Sept 9th. This class meets once a week.

Students may also join after the semester has started, if space remains.

2 - She will send you a form by email to complete and return.

3 - We will help set up billing account for you, if new to karate.



The school year class schedule is shown below, with some closures for holidays, winter break, and spring break.

Enrollment and registration

Little Dragons: Kids age 4 to 6. Children must turn 4 by September 1 to enroll. This is intended for beginner and novice students in preschool, kindergarten, or first grade. The class is repeatable for a second year.

Level 1: A multi-age youth and family class for beginner, novice, and intermediate students. (Ages 6 or 7 to adult*)
The class welcomes both youth students and families taking karate together. Please note: six-year-olds should speak to us about class placement - Level 1 may be appropriate for first graders with 1+ year prior enrollment in Little Dragons or 1+ year of a similarly structured physical activity. All other beginners age 7 to adult should start in level 1.

Level 2: Intermediate and advanced karate students. (Invited to join) This class usually has students from fifth grade to adult and has age-specific rank requirements to join. Students with prior martial arts experience at another school may also join level 2 with instructor permission. A full set of sparring gear is required for this class due to partner work and kumite drills.

Private Lessons: 30 minute or 1-hour private lessons are available by appointment. Limited times available with Laurinda Sensei and sometimes a Senpai.



* New adult students may be asked to undergo background check before finalizing enrollment. This can be done though several options including in conjunction with getting an Amateur Athletic Union non-athlete youth-program card. Our program reserves the right to deny enrollment to any prospect and to dismiss any current student who has a history we feel is inconsistent with athlete guidelines.



SUMMER CLASSES



​Summer Classes run through August 12th, Wednesday


Rianna Senpai is teaching class this week. Level 1 meets at 5:35-6:20pm and level 2 meets at 6:35-7:35pm.


There are no classes scheduled for August 13-25th as we prepare for the school year.

Meetings, Holiday Closures, and Other Events



  • Next regular board meeting - TBD in October, held via Zoom
  • Late summer closure - We will be closes 8/13-8/25 to prepare for the new school year and to enroll students.
  • Halloween - Closed on Saturday, 10/31
  • Thanksgiving - Closed Wednesday 11/25 & Thursday 11/26. Open Saturday 11/28
  • Belt testing - Scheduled by appointment for students in level 1 & level 2. Ask us for details.

Kenwa Karate of Sitka offers the following scholarships and discounts.



  • Scholarships - As a 501(c)3 non-profit our goal is to keep karate affordable for all students. If your family is in financial need or you know a student that would benefit from karate, please apply for a scholarship. New applications are reviewed by our board of directors. Scholarships are made possible by individual donors and grant agencies. Thank you to the Sitka White Elephant for a grant to provide scholarships in 2026!
    • ​Tuition scholarships - 25% off the base tuition for you or your child
    • Equipment, gear, and belt testing scholarships - the full cost of a uniform, sparring gear or belt testing covered
  • Family Discounts - We offer discounts for families with more than one household member enrolled in karate.
