REGULAR CLASSES & EVENTS
Classes are held on Wednesday and Saturday.
Level 1 & 2 classes are held year-round, except for a winter break. Rolling enrollment.
Little Dragons meets from mid-September to mid-May only.
Enrollment and registration
Little Dragons: Kids age 4 to 6 only. New student registration is open! Contact sensei@sitkakarate.org for details. Level 1: We welcome newcomers ages 7 to adult to register for either or both sections. Contact sensei@sitkakarate.org for details or registration forms. Level 2: By invitation for intermediate and advanced karate students. Students with prior martial arts experience at another school may also join level 2 with instructor permission.
Level 1 - Open to new students ages 7 to adult**. Also open to Little Dragons graduates who are 6 and have excellent focus with instructor permission. Option for once or twice weekly attendance. We introduce and review stances, blocks, attacks & introductory kata (forms) while placing a strong emphasis on improving one’s character by building manners, respect, and self-discipline. Sparring gear optional.
Level 2 Classes - For intermediate to advanced students - rank and age requirements must be met before joining. Students will work individually and in groups on karate skills and their personal goals. Appropriate and focused behavior is expected of all level 2 students. Sparring gear required. Option for once or twice weekly attendance.
Little Dragons - For kids ages 4 to 6. An introductory class for young children to learn basic karate techniques in a fun and age-appropriate environment.
Private Lessons - 30 minute or 1-hour private lessons are available by appointment. Limited times available with Sensei Laurinda (all ranks) and sometimes student Senpai (white belt through purple belt).
** New adult students should obtain a background check before finalizing enrollment. This can be done though several options including in conjunction with getting an Amateur Athletic Union non-athlete youth-program card. Our program reserves the right to deny enrollment to any prospect and to dismiss any current student who has a history we feel is inconsistent with athlete guidelines.

Quarterly BOD Meeting - August 16, 2024 @ noon - All board meetings are open to our students & families and the public. Contact us for the Zoom link in advance. We are also recruiting for a new board Vice President.
Belt Testing- By Appointment - Individual or small group tests are available by appointment. Green to black belt candidates provide at least one month's advanced notice for belt and certificate ordering.

Kenwa Karate of Sitka offers the following scholarships and discounts.
Scholarships - As a 501(c)3 non-profit our goal is to keep karate affordable for all students. If your family is in financial need or you know a student that would benefit from karate, please apply for a scholarship. New applications are reviewed by our board of directors. Scholarships are made possible by individual donors and grant agencies. Thank you to the Sitka White Elephant for a grant to provide scholarships in 2024!
Tuition scholarships - 25% off the base tuition for you or your child
Equipment, gear, and belt testing scholarships - the full cost of a uniform, sparring gear or belt testing covered
Family Discounts - We offer discounts for families with more than one household member enrolled in karate.
